THE STRAWBERRY

Faced with the end of certain synthetic chemical molecules and the arrival of more restrictive specifications for the use of pesticides, Medinbio has been entrusted with the construction of more innovative and environmentally friendly potato growing methods.

Agricultural context

This first experience of creating a sector allowed us to see the interest of the implementation of our method, "the system approach" which, as much or even more than the search for a new product, allowed us to quickly obtain encouraging results.

Method implemented by Medinbio

For the soil part, we have developed a first innovative formulation: GAIA SOL which combines compatible strains of microorganisms such as a Trichoderma sp fungus and a Bacillus sp bacterium associated with prebiotics favourable to their good implantation.

In strawberry farming, intensive soil management quickly leads to health problems and yield reductions. The root support provided by GAIA SOL has shown very visual effects with a very dense and healthy root system, as well as a significant effect on overall crop management and harvest quality.

Products used :

For the support of the plant we have launched SÈVE DEFENSE, an all-in-one combination of nettle, horsetail and willow extracts, guaranteed to contain integrated active ingredients (antioxidants and enzymes).

From the very first plantings, a clear difference was observed in the sanitary quality of strawberry plants grown under agro-ecology compared with those grown under conventional management. Stimulation of the plant at a well-established frequency throughout the growth phase made it possible to maintain growth potential and optimal photosynthesis.

Following successive trials, the gain in plant vigour was observable, and we focused on thrips management, with the aim of ensuring fruit production unaffected by damage from this highly problematic insect. Two natural formulations applied in alternation allowed us to achieve a very satisfactory result and to ensure good productivity.
In the end, the combination of these two innovations and an important application methodology, combined in some cases with a well-reasoned integrated biological control (contribution of predators), allowed us to manage most of the difficult situations, especially in summer.

Results obtained

In 2015, the experimental results were deemed sufficient to move to the production stage. For more than 4 years, local producers and in particular Socave, in association with the Carrefour group, have been continuing and expanding the successful experiment with a top-of-the-range product: the 'Gariguette', grown in the soil without synthetic pesticides from the time of flowering, with a production capacity of almost one million trays.

Thank you to everyone involved for believing in us and giving us the opportunity to realize our founding dreams at the time.
